[LN] The Doct - er, General Is In
Step number one of taking over leadership from Bunny was getting as informed as possible. That was why Rich had commandeered a room to essentially use as an office. It was now packed with books and scrolls to study to get a handle on the lore, magical mechanics, and history of this world.
He'd also managed to get his hands on a tablet to use as a datapad. One lucky thing about the technology he'd used during the war was that he was already used to typing one-handed, due to the datapads they'd used during the war being pretty small. And he was left-handed so he still had his dominant hand.
Still, what he wouldn't give for the medicos he had during the war. He'd lost a leg once, during the bombardment on Daedalus 5, and they'd grown him a new one in the space of a few days. Sadly, they didn't have the technological resources here for organ cloning, even if they possibly had people with the right expertise to do it. They probably had the resources to make him a decent prosthetic to use outside of battle, though, and that was something he planned on requesting.
Something else he needed besides all the lore and info on the enemy was data on all the people here. Skill sets, powers, fighting experience and so on.
So, for the ones Bunny wasn't able to give him info on, Rich was calling them in for a little interview. Each time, he introduced himself (to the ones he hadn't already met, at least) and explained the situation.
"I called you in here because Bunny's going to be relinquishing leadership of our little band of misfits to me as soon as I'm caught up on everything, so one thing I need to do is find out what everyone can do. I just have a few questions to ask you. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions of me."

It was a valid question, why he was qualified to just slip right into the job. So he figured he'd get that out of the way first and then ask Peter questions from there.
"My bonafides include being commander-in-chief of an army of more than a hundred different species that fought against a genocidal space dictator that killed billions of sentients. I got the Kree and the Skrulls actually working together when they'd been at war for probably about a million years or more."
Where had that app icon gone - oh, there it was.
"The bugs almost beat us when they weaponized Galactus but I got a strike team in to take Annihilus himself out - you know what they say: kill the head and the body dies. I pulled his guts out through his mouth and stopped the Wave three months before Earth got turned into a much more horrible version of the Klendathu scene from Starship Troopers."
He wasn't just a superhero or just a cop.
He was a soldier. He was a general.

He went on, "It's going to be a process but I have to start somewhere, right? Meeting everyone and finding out what they can do - and them being able to ask me questions, too - is a start."
He knew they wouldn't trust him instantly. But once he was caught up, he could show them what he could do in the field and transition things over when he had a good handle on everything.

Never mind that he was living in Santa's workshop and on a regular basis making off with his snow globes. You'd think he'd have adjusted by now, but even now it hadn't fully sunk in.
"And you've met me already. And you know what I can do. Well, except for the stuff that I can't do anymore. And if there's anything different in my abilities and the other Peter's abilities...okay, so maybe you do still need to interview me."
no subject
"Exactly."
Now he got it.
"What I know of my Spidey is he has the agility, speed, flexibility, endurance, low-end superstrength, sticking to walls, the webbing, and that -" He waved his hand in a vague gesture "- weird thing he does where he can sometimes react to danger without even looking at it."
That had to be a power in its own right rather than just fast reflexes. Sometimes he wasn't even facing the direction the danger was coming from.
"If you've got more than that - or less - it's important that I know."

Way too many times, that was for sure. It was an embarrassment, really.
"Um. But there was kinda something else, when I first arrived. I don't really know what it was, but when the fearlings attacked my spider sense felt...weird. Not like it usually did. But it hasn't happened again, so I don't know what it was."
no subject
"People's powers sometimes change to fit this place better. From what Bunny says, sometimes the changes make it so people's powers are geared towards protecting the kids better. Do you think maybe you were able to sense the fearlings themselves? Like some kind of extra sensitivity to them?"
That seemed the most reasonable possibility if his spider sense had gone off and reacted to them a certain way.
no subject
He wasn't sure how he'd feel about being able to sense fearlings. They had been...disturbing, and any kind of connection to those things wasn't something he wanted. But still, if it could actually help...

Okay, so what next?
"Those web-shooters - you build them yourself? My Spidey always seemed to have a pretty strong grasp on science."
If so, he was going to be impressed. That had to have involved some crazy mechanical and chemical engineering and he was pretty young to have managed it at his age.
no subject
"My web shooters? Yeah, I built them. But it wasn't all me, I mean - not from scratch. My Dad had been working on the formula for molecular adhesive before he died for years - I just finished it off. Well, and made the mechanism."
no subject
He shook his head.
"You're talking to a guy that failed high school chemistry. And pulled C's in math."
no subject
And okay, since Peter's entire life was all of about 15 years, that probably didn't sound like that long to Nova. But it was a long time to Peter, okay.
no subject
It was something he never could've done.
"At age fifteen, it had taken my little brother pretty much his whole life to build a functioning robot out of old kitchen appliances - while I was flunking chemistry." He pointed in the direction of one of Peter's wrists, where he'd usually have his webshooter, and said, "I'm gonna stick with being impressed."
