"De nada, sweetie," she called back. "Don't be a stranger."

Jaime grabbed one of the flashlights and led Nate outside. With the energy shortages, some nights were blackout nights where there were no streetlights lit up and this was one of them. That meant the night sky was filled with stars.

It was pleasant enough, although it tended to become a less pleasant walk as you got out towards the shantytowns, what with the crying and yelling - the sounds that filled the night air when that many impoverished people were crowded in one place.

They weren't there yet, though, so Jaime enjoyed the walk, his eyes drawn upward.

"Dude, you should see what the stars look like outside the city now. On blackout days there's, like, no light pollution. At all. You can go right outside the city and it's like being right in the middle of the desert."

Silver linings, right? He was always looking for those silver linings. That was just what he did.
