"It's dangerously subtle," said Batman. "Righteousness turns to zealotry. Confidence to arrogance and then to megalomania. It has no affect unless someone is in direct contact but it only takes a few minutes before it starts affecting their mind."

Batman shook his head.

"Which is one of many reasons why using it to free the Spectre is out of the question." He stared him down. "Not the least of which is that it would be tantamount to murder. And like Nightwing said, the Spectre wouldn't restrain himself to killing just Superman and the League, it would go after everyone who could be conceivably considered a dangerous criminal or a murderer."

He looked Superboy in the eye.

"Yourself included."
