Annnd he still didn't understand half of those words or understand why drinks had been made from some of them. Eggs, he knew because lizards and bugs laid them, so it was like knowing about the existence of maggots - it was just the way of the world. But since his main experience with eggs was lizard and bug eggs, a drink made from them didn't really sound appetizing and while he wouldn't have been picky if that's all there was, apparently he actually had a choice here. Eating them was one thing but a drink? And sweetener? Well, okay, maybe that was something that made things sweet, but he had no idea what it was other than that. Beans, he knew, because that was part of the green grown in Citadel that War Boys ate but dried and ground beans soaked in hot water sounded pointless. Why not just eat them?

"What's leaves? That's like plants, right? The green parts?"

They tended to eat the other bits of the plants. The non-green. The orange parts and red parts and so on. So he knew the name for the vegetables they ate but he was a black thumb. He'd had absolutely no experience with maintaining the green. He only knew the names of the bits that got served up to them.

"I'm a black thumb, not a green thumb. I don't know plants."

So far the water was still sounding the most reasonable but he was...curious.
