[LN] Who Ya Gonna Call?
None of this made any sense. True, as a Ghostbuster, Ray was used to things not making a lot of sense, they always did when the paranormal got involved, but this took the cake. One moment he was at the firehouse, getting equipped for another day on the job, the next he was in the middle of what looked like Chicago. Not only that, but people were passing through him like he wasn't even there.
Ray didn't feel dead. Of course, he didn't really know what feeling dead was like. Still, he wasn't obeying any normal rule of being a ghost. He was, again, in Chicago, rather than in the place he'd last been in or a place he had attachment to. He could pass through people, but not walls. He certainly couldn't hover or fly. Ray supposed he could chalk some of the issues up to being an extremely weak ghost, but the PKE readings he'd taken of himself were way too high for that to be the case.
So, after adjusting the PKE meter to ignore the wavelength he was putting out, he set off to track down the source of the phenomena. After many blocks, carrying the proton pack was starting to tire him out, which was another mark against him being a ghost. He rested against a streetlight, breathing a little heavily.
"This would be SO much easier if I had the Ectomobile." He reflected, and, as if it had just been waiting for him to call, the vehicle in question faded into existence in the parking space beside him.
"Today," Ray said, voice tinged slightly with awe, "Just keeps getting weirder and weirder."

For a moment, he could only stare, frozen.
The he said, "This is the best thing that's ever happened to me."
He looked down at ring on his hand.
"And I have a Green Lantern ring. The bar is pretty high."
no subject
That was definitely a kid flying with the assistance of a Green Lantern ring. Incredibly cool, but also incredibly worthy of a PKE scan. And Ray ended up getting results similar to his own.
"Hey there, Ray Stantz, but I figure you already knew that. You have any clue what's going on here, because right now I'm drawing a blank."

A pause.
"As far as PKE buildup goes, it's a big twinkie."
Nerd moment over.
"Because of it, reality here has become thin. In this world, we're all fiction. Many worlds theory - there are so many universes everything has to be real somewhere, right? Including worlds where writers come up with fiction that tells the stories of real people in other realities. Because of reality becoming thin thanks to Kuk, the belief and fear of the kids of this worlds is subconsciously pulling us from the worlds where we're real so that we can protect them. A group of people from a variety of dimensions have all been pulled here and changed into mythical superheroes, complete with superpowers. We get stronger based on how many believers we have."
He went on, "In this world, my life is a sitcom that had terrible ratings but became a cult classic. Your life is a popular franchise of multiple movies, comics, and animated television shows. My world has that same franchise as fiction, too. That's how I recognized you."
Hence his excitement over seeing Ray.

"Belief as a tangible source of energy. Fascinating and terrifying at the same time. Especially with childhood myths. Bloody Mary, the monster under the bed..."
He pondered the implications. "I don't suppose the good ones exist, too, do they? Are Santa and the Easter Bunny real here?"
no subject
"Right on both counts. Darker myths are coming alive or being pulled from other worlds where they're real. Supervillains and horror movie creatures have been running amok. But in this world characters like the Easter Bunny and Santa exist, too. They always have and they've dedicated their lives to protecting children alongside giving them gifts and snow days."
He explained. "Since they're natives to this world, they've been helping us figure out how to fight back and how to use our powers. Only three of them are free, though: Jack Frost, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. Santa, Anansi the Spider, and the Sandman were all captured so Kuk could feed off of their belief."

If there was one thing Ray didn't approve of, it was messing with kids. And taking Santa definitely fell under that.
"Not exactly the most original of gods, though. It sounds like a plan pulled from a Rankin/Bass Christmas special. Still, seems like we're in quite a pickle. What can I do to help?"
no subject
He floated down to ground level.
"We still haven't figured out how to take the fight to Kuk yet."
He looked at the Ectomobile.
"I can probably carry your car with my ring. Or we can use a magical snowglobe to drive it to the Pole. But it can probably teleport or fly if it's even here and I'd rather ride in it. Yeah, I'm getting in your car now."
Which was exactly what he did, open the passenger seat door, and climb right in, peering around the inside with an expression of childlike glee.

The car was wired up with various equipment, buttons, and switches that definitely didn't come standard on a 1959 Miller-Meteor. As Ray prepared to move the Ectomobile out, though, one button in particular caught his eye.
"Don't remember installing that..." Ray said, pressing it curiously. The Ecto-1b suddenly ascended a few feet, wheels rotating downward, like a certain car from another mid-eighties film.
"I stand corrected." Ray said, a giddy grin on his face.
no subject
Very cool.
"Start heading north. I can give you directions to the Pole. If any fearlings come after us I can use a magic snowglobe to create a dimensional vortex to get us there faster but those are hard to make without Santa so we're only supposed to use them in emergencies. We should be fine as long as we keep moving."
Also he just wanted the bragging rights of riding in the Ectomobile. And he wanted a chance to pick at Ray's brain. And also Ray might want to pick his brain about the world they were in.
no subject
"So...this Kuk. You said he's a Class 7. My experience is they usually have subordinates. The fearlings you mentioned qualify, but are they the only ones?"
no subject
That was past Ray's time so he figured he ought to explain.
"Last Action Hero is an action movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger that came after your time, if it exists in your world at all. It's terrible. It's about a boy who goes into his favorite series of action movies using a magic movie ticket given to him by the mysterious movie theater owner. Benedict is a villainous henchman in the movie that realizes he's in a movie, kills the main villain, and concocts a plan to go to the real world and steal the magical movie ticket so he can recruit horror movie villains to do his bidding. He seems to be one of Kuk's most trusted henchman and he's almost killed a few of us."
He was good enough that he almost killed Abed himself with that parasite creature when he first arrived and almost killed two of the turtles.
"We've also already had an incident of a horror video game coming to life and imposing itself on reality. The villains in it almost forced one of the kids in our group to murder his twin sister via ghostly possession as part of a dark sacrificial ritual. Not cool."
