"Professor Callaghan? Prof—"

A horrible shrieking noise from above caught his attention and Tadashi Hamada spent his last moments of life throwing his arms up over his head as a beam (burned free from the Expo Hall ceiling) plummeted toward his head.

...Except his last moments were a lot longer that he'd expected. And suddenly very, very cold. Fresh air absent of any inferno of heat sliced into his lungs like a knife, making him cough hard enough to stagger him to his knees. The ground squelched.

"...What...?"

Tadashi wheezed through another coughing fit, staring around him in confusion. No flames. No science projects at risk of explosion. Just a cool evening in the unfamiliar suburbs.

Weird.

Once he could breathe again, Tadashi rose to his feet, brushing at the mud on the knees of his jeans. He clearly wasn't in San Fransokyo anymore – had there been a teleporter at the Showcase? He didn't think there had been, but he'd been too amped up about Hiro's presentation to really notice or care what everyone else had been doing. But teleportation this advanced would have been revolutionary in the extreme; surely he’d have heard something about it...

He just had to stay calm and work this out. Look at it from another angle until something clicked into place.

With reality getting thinner, there were more than myth people appearing. Sometimes there were myth locations, especially ones that were appropriate to the time of year. With Halloween approaching, countless kids were watching Halloween themed movies, everything from horror movies to the more family-friendly fair. Among certain age sets, one particular Halloween movie was capturing the attention of the younger children, one that showed on TV every year. That was why a strange cabin appeared in the woods just outside of Berk, one that Jamie's friends apparently had no reservations against exploring.

"Guys, I don't think this is a good idea," Jamie said as they poked and prodded at the windows, hanging back nervously. The place looked...familiar. In a bad way. "We've been all over these woods and I don't think this was even here before."

"Oh come on, Jamie, don't be a chicken. It's probably some kinda haunted house someone set up for Halloween," said his friend Claude. He prodded at the door...which swung open. "And it looks like whoever set it up left it unlocked.

"What are you afraid of?" asked Caleb, bouncing in front of Jamie's face, wiggling his fingers. "Ghosts?"

"You know what I'm afraid of. It could be -"

"Oh, don't say it," said Claude.

"He's gonna say it," said Caleb.

"Here he goes again," said Pippa, rolling her eyes upward.

One of the stressful parts about over half of the Guardians being missing was that that the world went on, and belief in them couldn't afford to falter. Until they got some sort of indication that they were dead, the Yetis still made toys for Christmas, and the Mini Fairies still collected teeth, under the command of Baby Tooth. There had been the odd Mini Fairy sighting here and there, but they were all busier than ever, as they had to do as much of what their creator did as they could, to make sure that she had as much belief as they could drum up for her.

Which is why seeing a small cloud of Mini Fairies come flashing into the Workshop was probably not a good sign, especially given the distressed chirps they were letting out.

They start circling the main chamber, zipping here and there like organized hummingbirds, looking for Jack or Bunny or anyone who can help them.

The twins burst onto the scene in the cave (what was a cave even doing in this state?) like two tiny wrecking balls of protectiveness. The Mystery Twins were on the case and they weren't going to let their friends get eaten by a stupid monster, especially after they'd been snatched up right under their noses.

Kevin and Allayna were in a cage of some kind of black stone or metal, clinging to each other and looking terrified, as the shadowy figure of the Jersey Devil lurked behind them, goat legs, horns, and all.

"Let go of those kids, you unholy spawn of New Jersey!" Dipper cried out, using the worst insult he could think of.
